Welcome to the Patricia Region Aero Modelers Web page. Last Update, July 29, 2008 July 29/2008 July has been a busy month in the Zone, there was Our Fun Fly on the 12th, Rainy River International's Fun Fly on the 19th, and Thunder Bay's Lakehead Aero Modelers Fun Fly on the 26th. As President of the club, I felt I should try to attend all these events as ambassador to our club (At least that's what I told my wife, ha ha :), so I have been putting the miles on and hauling planes all over North Western Ontario. I have a few Pic's from and a short report from each event if anyone want to have a look. click here for Rainy River, and here for T Bay. The Bonny Bay Float fly is coming up fast and we have got the local Radio Stations plugging the float fly for us. Thanks to the gang at CKDR, Q104 fm and CBC radio. Remember the deadline for pilot registration is Aug 3rd. Jerome has pilot registration forms and you can get one from me if you would like by just e mailing me at bbrisson@drytel.net
July 16 2008 The Patricia Region Aero Modelers Fun Fly 2008 was held July 12-13, and I am glad to report there was a great turnout! There were pilots from Thunder Bay, Kenora, Souix Lookout and Ear Falls! That was the good news, the bad news was the weather! it was cold, raining, windy and generally the worst weather possible for flying. There were a few folks flying though, and there were a few thrills. Harry and Jerome went up for a flight with their combat planes and were tearing up the sky when they had a head on mid air! the best part was the reaction of the pilots, most would be upset or angry but Harry and Jerome were yelling "woohoo's" and exchanging "high fives"! The weather didn't get any better on Sunday, but there were still a few flights. Mike from Souix Lookout brought a .51 powered control line model and gave us a demo. I remember control line planes with .049's and 12 inch wings....boy things have changed! Mike gave the few folks that braved the weather a real show of what these planes can really do! We would really like to thank the folks who made the trip to our fun fly, even though the weather was so bad. and a big thanks to all the club members for their help. next year we are going to order better weather in advance! Looking ahead, the Rainy River Fun Fly is going on July 19-20, and the Thunder Bay Fun Fly is July 26-27. I hope they get better weather than we did!
July 6/08 We had a little get together on Saturday and even though the wind was a bit to strong to fly and scale planes, the combat planes were up and trailing ribbons in a fur ball. Harry, Jerome and Bill were all up trying to cut ribbons, with some having better luck than others. Harry won the day with 3 cuts (Bill's twice and Jerome once) and Jerome got a cut too. Bill's luck was not as good (see pic) but he brought 2 combat planes so he could at least fly and fight in the 3rd battle. Jerome tied on the apron and did a great job (as always) as the cook. Burgers were had by all. Ron Hersey brought out a pair of Beavers, one on wheels and one on amphibs, (his design) but, unfortunately, the wind was enough to keep them on the ground. Ralph was there with a plane and brought young River Hall out with his new plane. River was also grounded by the wind, opting to keep his plane in one piece for the fun fly coming up next weekend. Next weekend is our "Summer Fun Fly" at the field, so cross your fingers for good weather! the BBQ is ready, the runways are in great shape and everyone is welcome! there is no pilot registration fees or landing fees, and spectators are invited to come out and see the planes Don't forget, The Bonny Bay Float Fly is coming up fast, get your float planes charged up and ready to fly!. Hope to see you all there! *************************************** The Patricia Region Aero Modelers flying field is top notch and located just minutes from down town Dryden. Our club has "flying night" every Wednesday evening during the summer months from around 5PM 'til Dark. (weather permitting) and weekends all day (10AM 'til dark). During the winter months, we hold our general meetings on the second Wednesday of each month. Visitors and new pilots are welcome! Our only restriction is that all pilots wishing to fly must be current AMA or MAAC members. Our flying field is located just south of the Sunset Drive In Theater, on Johnston Rd. Click HERE to see an aerial view New pilots are welcome to come on out and see what this "flying thing" is all about, there are different types of aircraft for all types of pilots, from the fast moving "turn and burners" to the slow and gentle trainers and larger scale planes. There are even a few members in our club who like to "beat the air into submission" with there Helicopters (great fun to watch). The Patricia Region Aero Modelers have been around for over 20 years at the same location. Our field has 2 intersecting runways and a covered radio impound and pilot area to get out of the sun on those hot days. There are flying stations along the runways for safety and a large open pit area for setup, tinkering and parking for airplanes and helicopters. Latest News and Updates Ok we're a small club with not all that much in the way of breaking news stories, but every once in a while there is some news, and we will try to update our site as soon as we can. Keep checking here for updates. As you may have noticed, this site has been built only recently and is still (always) under construction. Be sure to check in from time to time and see our latest updates.
